RUSSIAN ORTHODOX CHURCH OUTSIDE RUSSIA NEW YORK, NY
The Russian Orthodox Church Outside Russia (ROCOR) owns part of the historic George F. Baker House complex, which includes a mansion with ballroom addition and a unique courtyard at East 93rd St and Park Avenue. PKSB Architects has worked with the Synod of Bishops of ROCOR to develop building reuse plans for alternative lease and/or sale options. The options have included residential and institutional conversions, with expansion space for the church’s use, and most recently have explored subdivision of the existing building to allow for sale of valuable Carnegie Hill property. Each plan has been based upon a program of church uses that are important to maintain on site with the historic cathedral space, along with new uses that could generate added income for ongoing maintenance and needed renovations.
