Mulberry Streetscape | NEW YORK, NY
The streetscape design transforms the underutilized and preserved section of Mulberry Street (SoHo, New York City), between Prince Street and E Houston, into a vibrant pedestrian boulevard. The challenge of this project was maintaining the current vehicular functionality of the street while creating an area that promotes pedestrian use. The proposal designates portions of Mulberry and Jersey Streets as having limited vehicular access. The addition of street trees, lighting, seating and new patterned surface pavement establishes clear pedestrian zones. Located adjacent to Old St. Patrick's Cathedral and a New York Public Library branch, the streetscape improvements are much needed in a neighborhood that is bustling with community activity.
