JOHN BOWNE HIGH SCHOOL, Q511   QUEENS, NY

PKSB was commissioned to design a new 4 story stand-alone annex building for John Bowne High School in the Flushing neighborhood of Queens. The goal of the project was to increase classroom capacities for the students, while also including specialty classroom space to allow a culinary arts laboratory and a medical classroom not provided in the existing school.

The new building is situated on part of a larger education block that includes the existing John Bowne School Site. Main entry is provided to the annex off of a wide campus pedestrian path, through a small courtyard facing Reeves Avenue, providing a critical buffer space, and a spot to congregate. Simplified building massing follow cues from the other campus building and express the internal functions, as well as minimize costs.
