“Here is an architecture which holds the center without compromising the modern project. And in holding the center asserts the enduring value of an architecture which will not sacrifice one component of the design process to achieve notoriety with another. Instead, the analytic, the contextual, the tectonic, materiality and proportion, the discipline of mind, the pleasure of convincing form all seek to remain in balance. But the balance is achieved out of our moment, with its uncertainties, anxieties, and changing values expressed in the work and at the same time finding comfort in the continuity of the humanist tradition.”
- Richard Weinstein, from Contemporary World Architects
A commitment to architectural excellence in support of humanist values provides the continuity of expression that distinguishes our work. In the first years of the new century the very concept of humanism is being transformed by technology. The way we design, the way we communicate, the materials we use and, to an extent, the places we create are changed. Our understanding of the essential role of architecture is not.
We believe that each individual project demands a singular focus as well as a clear vision. Our goal is to create buildings and spaces that clearly respond to their time, place and purpose. We also design buildings to adapt to ongoing changes that the future will demand. The inventive approach that we bring to each project also carries over into our preservation work, which has always been a significant aspect of our practice. Our methodology is designed to bridge the gap between the old and the new through functional connections and/or visual cues. This innovative approach has resulted in buildings that respect their past and contribute to the future of our architectural environment.
